Associate

Reboot is a social enterprise working to improve governance and international development. Around the world, we are pioneering new models of engagement between citizens and public institutions. We help governments, international donors, NGOs, and others to become more responsive to the communities they serve.

We are seeking an energetic, detail-oriented polymath to work across Reboot’s portfolio of research and programming. The Associate will focus on our international practice, with possible involvement in domestic work as well. Our work cuts across sectors and this individual is likely to have experiences as diverse as conducting ethnographic research in rural communities, providing technical support to community organizations working on public expenditure accountability, and designing technology solutions to bring government institutions closer to their constituents.

The role is well-suited for someone who thrives on new challenges and opportunities to learn new topics. It requires superb skills in communication, analysis, client relations, and project management.

This role is based in New York, but requires travel up to 40 percent of the time.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage client engagements, with responsibility for resource planning, budget management, quality assurance, and client communications.
  • Coordinate work across team members and consultants to ensure outputs are of consistently high quality and are delivered on-time and within budget.
  • Participate in the inception, design, execution, documentation, and presentation of Reboot’s programs from start to finish, including but not limited to:
    • Executing hands-on field research in a variety of international locations, including developing country contexts
    • Synthesizing and analyzing field research
    • Designing service and program solutions
    • Producing client deliverables
  • Perform technical and administrative functions, such as proposal drafting and managing project schedules and budgets.
  • Help new clients and partners understand Reboot’s design research approach, and lead discussions on project scope, methodology, and outputs.
  • Plan and execute client workshops and lead client presentations as appropriate.
  • Contribute to process innovation within Reboot to improve our organizational agility, efficiency, and impact.

Qualifications:

A successful candidate will bring a mix of skills and experiences to the role. Specifically, we are looking for someone who can combine international experience, project management skills, and client relations.

Our Ideal Candidate Has:
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in international development, public policy, government, or a relevant field.
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field, including international development, public policy, public administration, economics, business management, design, or others.
  • Experience managing complex, donor-funded programs in developing countries, and ideally in multiple countries.
  • At least one year of overseas, field-based experience. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in fragile or transitional states, or politically sensitive environments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial management, including budgeting, accounting, and reporting.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively synthesize and present complex ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work under tight time constraints. Can multitask with ease, manage ambiguity, and adapt to frequently changing priorities.
  • Written and spoken fluency in English and at least one other language. Candidates with Spanish or Arabic proficiency will be given preference.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new topics quickly.
  • Ability to travel up to 40 percent of the year, and to be based in a field location for up to six weeks at a time.
