Reboot is hiring. We are a rapidly expanding social enterprise working at the intersection of design, technology, and public policy. We work to effect social change through projects in the fields of governance, international development, and civic media. Based in New York City, our reach is global. In 2011, our work spans the United States, Egypt, China, and Pakistan. Our clients are large institutions with the capacity to meaningfully impact the world.
We are immediately looking to fill the following positions with talented individuals:
• Director of Corporate Development
• Visual Designer
• Front-End Developer
More details will be posted about these roles shortly. In the meantime, if you are interested in working with us, please do read on. We are currently accepting general expressions of interest.
Work Environment
Reboot is a young company. This means we require self-starters that thrive in a fast, intradisciplinary environment.
Our backgrounds span politics, international development, and media. We like stimulating banter and constructive debate, and expect all team members to keep up. Global literacy is a core competency.
Our team is young and energetic. We work hard and long. Depending on the engagement, we don’t expect the same number of hours from all team members, but we do expect the same drive, energy, and ambition.
All team members will have the opportunity to conceive of and develop new initiatives in our core practice areas. We encourage good ideas and risk-taking, and we reward talent, dedication, and the ability to drive and deliver quality.
The team works out of a lovely office in downtown Manhattan, right above Union Square, complete with a rooftop for happy hours and summer BBQs.
What We Look For
• Demonstrated experience in an entrepreneurial role, whether within an organization or independently. You need to be comfortable at a fast-growing start-up.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. This means the ability to write an opinion piece with minimal guidance and the ability to speak comfortably to an expert audience. Blogging experience is helpful. (Note: We don’t have designated writers or ‘comms people’ to disseminate our ideas. Thus, each team member is expected to have their own interests and opinions, and to want to share those opinions to further the dialogue in their areas of expertise.)
• Comfort with and active interest in new technologies. While Reboot is not a tech shop — we stress process over technology — much of our work involves software applications in critical or supporting roles.
• Ability to clearly and confidently present your ideas and work in front of internal and external clients.
• Unreasonably high standards and a willingness to nitpick.
• Desire to work closely with a passionate team to realize change.
In terms of background, we are open-minded. Experience in politics, public policy, international development, public media, journalism, and design are helpful.
Podcast listeners and sushi lovers are especially encouraged to apply. If you give long speeches during conference Q&As, you might not be a good fit.
