Field Coordinator and Researcher - China Based
(中文文本在下)
Reboot is looking for a project coordinator for an upcoming project in China examining money, banking, and poverty. The study is an exciting opportunity to help drive innovation in the international development sector.
We are looking for a field coordinator and researcher for a month-long study that will include urban and rural locations across China. The ideal coordinator/researcher will be proactive, energized, and will want to engage in shaping the direction and outputs of the study.
Our methods are rooted in ethnographic approaches, thus practical experience in the social sciences is helpful, but not necessary. Those with backgrounds in design, journalism, or international development may also find this opportunity interesting.
This is a fixed-term engagement. Light project work will begin immediately (starting around 5 to 10 hours a week), and the field study will run from mid-April to mid-May, where the coordinator will be expected to work a demanding, full-time schedule.
Chinese nationals are especially encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
- Recruiting study participants from a wide array of economic and professional backgrounds.
- Securing and scheduling interviews with experts in the fields of mobile technology, banking, and rural development in China.
- Conducting interviews with study participants.
- Translating documents and interviews in English and Chinese.
- Managing field logistics including accommodations, travel, and scheduling.
.
Qualifications:
- Must be based in China, and have a minimum of four years experience working in the country. Experience in one or more of the following locations/provinces preferred: Beijing, Inner Mongolia, Guizhou, and Yunnan.
- Must be fluent (written and spoken) in Mandarin Chinese. Conversational fluency in other local dialects is helpful.
- Must have at least intermediate fluency (written and spoken) in English.
- Must be a good listener. Empathy and social intuition (the ability to read people and situations) are core competencies.
- Must be comfortable in a wide range of social environments, highly adaptable, and quick on your feet.
