About You:
You’ve already tested your mettle and have substantial work to show for it, and want to work on the big, hairy problems. You’re an rockstar engineer, comfortable moving between front-end and back-end architecture. You’re a team player. You know and use open source tools, and can innovate and invent if nothing existing fits the bill. You love learning new skills, and want to make stuff that makes a difference. You want a job you’re proud to talk about when your mom calls. You are fun to work with.
Responsibilities:
Be the tech expert in residence, able to advise clients on technology as well as to develop and implement it. Be able to think on your feet: this is a start-up and things move pretty fast. You should be comfortable in both the prim and proper world of our clients and loose, fun of ours. You should be fun to work with and have a deep and abiding love of pushing things and shipping products (and services). In short, you are exceedingly capable.
We work with clients on complex projects that span the globe, and so will you. One week you might be developing a prototype for a mobile banking application in Sub-Saharan Africa and the next you might be building a knowledge sharing platform for civic organizers in the Middle East. You get that not everyone has fiber to the home, and can build solutions appropriate to the technology environment. You’re smart and nerdy but get that not everyone is: you can explain what object oriented programming is to your aunt and uncle who just friended you on “the Facebooks”.
More formally, we’d like you to:
- Serve as technical manager for projects, building detailed technical roadmaps and project plans.
- Manage, support and grow both in-house developers as well as contractors on diverse projects.
- Analyze and recommend improvements for existing client technical infrastructure.
- Lead development on front- or back-end infrastructure for various Reboot technical initiatives.
- Advise design staff on possible technical hurdles of design decisions.
- Help translate user requirements into technical requirements, functional prototypes and implemented systems.
- Understand user requirements and identify ways to support them.
- Help build detailed requirements and specs for external development.
- Provide insight into new technologies and ideas without being asked. Keep an eye out for innovative technologies that could be adapted to benefit a new context, as well as identify and address potential problems in implementations.
Requirements:
- Serious programming chops. Real world experience.
- Belief in iteration and agile and MVP.
- Understanding open source and the web.
- A genuine, upbeat and friendly attitude. You should like work.
About Us:
We are social impact consultants. Reboot combines design and policy expertise to help institutions build better programs for the people and communities they serve. And we’re not just working to solve great challenges; we’re building a company. We look for self-starters who thrive in a fast-paced, start-up environment.
We come from many and varied backgrounds, love banter and debate about work and non-work. We take the work seriously; ourselves, well, not always so much.
We encourage and reward good ideas and risk-taking. We look for teammates who can drive their own projects and deliver exceptional results each and every time.
The team works out of a lovely office in downtown Manhattan, convenient to everywhere and right above Union Square, complete with a rooftop for happy hours and summer BBQs.
