Position: Program Intern (Part-time)
As Reboot enters our next phase of growth, we’re looking for a driven, talented intern to support our work across various practice areas. We offer hands-on experience on an array of projects both local and global.
You should have a strong grasp of current issues in one or more of the following areas: global governance, international development, and media development. Preference will be given to those who understand the role of technology and/or design in creating solutions in the above fields.
We seek a creative talent eager for real responsibility and willing to take ownership over their work products. We offer a stimulating and nurturing work environment. This is a part-time role to start, with the potential for full-time employment after three months.
Responsibilities
• Communications: Support Reboot’s external communications efforts, including our blog, newsletter, and social media outlets.
• Research & Strategy: Contribute research and writing for various projects. This will mostly be done from our New York office, with possible international fieldwork.
• Data & Media Management: Support the management of Reboot’s data and media assets. We’d seek an information enthusiast that is excited about managing, analyzing, and visualizing quantitative and qualitative data.
• Relationship Management: Manage client communications on select projects. You should be comfortable interacting with senior roles in a range of fields, and understand the dynamics and sensitivities of such relationships.
• Organizational Support: Support in managing Reboot’s corporate account. We are seeking an astute, details-oriented intern to help develop intelligent tracking mechanisms for the company’s growth.
Qualifications
We are open to a wide range of profiles. This role may be suited for a university student in the areas of public policy, international development, or journalism, or an early career professional who would like to work at a socially oriented organization.
Key traits we do look for:
• A distinct, no-jerk personality. Our team is made up of delightful people, and you must be one too.
• Tangible confidence. We’re looking for the type that is comfortable striking up conversation in any environment.
• Demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit. Things move fast around here because team members aren’t afraid to seize the reins.
• An outstanding, persuasive communicator across multiple forums, with fluency in new and digital communications channels. Demonstrated experience explaining or otherwise communicating about complex issues.
• Experience building and maintaining professional relationships with people of diverse backgrounds.
• Experience in press outreach and an understanding of the media ecosystem Reboot operates within.
• Demonstrated organizational and time management skills. Ability to be self-directed and stay on task even when unsupervised.
• An eagerness to work in a start-up environment.
• Comfort with controlled chaos. Changing deadlines and last-minute requests are all part of the game.
Terms
This position is currently offered as a three-month, part-time (20 hours a week) commitment, and we are looking for the ideal candidate to start on June 1, 2011. We offer a modest stipend, and there is the potential for a full-time, salaried position after three months.
Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate telecommuters — we require the candidate to work out of our Manhattan office, located in the Flatiron District.
