Position: Senior Service Designer
We are currently seeking a Senior Service Designer who is an inspired systems thinker and visual communicator, with a passion for using their design skills to change the world.
You are both creative and analytical. You can rally others in pursuit of a big-picture vision, but you also put in the hours to painstakingly nitpick over the details until they’re right. You are enterprising and have got the chops to become a star all on your own, but you value (and know how to maximize value from) a multidisciplinary team.
This is a leadership role with significant opportunities for professional growth. You will be based in our New York office, but willing to travel internationally up to 20 percent of the time.
Responsibilities:
- Guide the design process, from start to finish, for various client projects.
- Collaborate with diverse subject area experts (urban planners, development economists, human rights advocates, policy wonks, etc) and internal/external teams to develop tailored processes for each assignment.
- Embed with our research teams to understand user and client needs, and turn key insights into actionable, robust design solutions.
- Be a public advocate for putting citizens and communities at the heart of programme design in international development and governance. Spread Reboot’s philosophy and work through frequent writing, public speaking, and teaching engagements, or through other avenues.
- Collaborate with and mentor Reboot’s design team, and help to source and manage consultants and vendors as appropriate for each project.
- Contribute to process innovation within Reboot to improve our organizational agility and impact.
- Educate new clients and partners on Reboot’s unique approach, and lead client discussions on project scope, methodology, and outputs.
Qualifications:
- A consummate systems thinker. You understand the nuances, layers, and complexities of each challenge, and are able to consider and evaluate diverse approaches in developing solutions.
- Extensive experience with all phases of the design process, including needs assessment, research, strategy, design, testing, and implementation.
- Formal training in a relevant field (industrial, service, or interaction design, etc.), or extensive (4+ years) professional experience, with demonstrated growth over your career.
- Wide-ranging experience across multiple sectors and in both domestic and international settings.
- Ace verbal and written communication skills. You can articulate complex ideas in a clear, succinct manner, whether they are user stories, visual concepts, theoretical frameworks, or future scenarios. You can explain the design process and defend your design decisions to your team and to clients.
- Expert know-how in creating systems diagrams, wireframes, and flow-charts. Sharp eye for visual design across media.
- A knack and passion for interactive prototyping
- Fluency in software engineering processes and the ability to oversee technical teams.
