Position: Visual Design Fellow (Part-time)

We are currently looking for a Visual Design Fellow who matches our enthusiasm for the mission at hand and can help us craft sharp, savvy project-related design solutions. Our ideal candidate will embrace our unique vision and be driven by a desire to leverage their design skills for social impact, locally and globally. We seek someone who has experience designing for print and web, and who knows how to present complex data and concepts in a clear, concise, and compelling manner.

Responsibilities
• Guide, from start to finish, the creative visual design process for various internal and client projects.
• Strengthen and extend Reboot’s visual brand across media and platforms.
• Create clear, compelling ways to present complex concepts and to illustrate qualitative and quantitative data.
• Develop templates for communication collateral.
• Design the web user interface for various client and internal projects.
• Support the redesign of Reboot’s website, with the goal of creating a more rewarding user experience.
• Create illustrations and infographics to accompany content on the Reboot site, with a focus on the Ideas section.
Qualifications
We’re open to a wide range of profiles. This role may be suited for a veteran graphic designer or a student looking to build a portfolio of work with demonstrated social impact. Similarly, this role may be suited for an individual with social sector experience who also wields significant design skills.
Key characteristics we do look for:
• A brazen aesthete boasting a strong portfolio illustrating creative interactive and graphic design skills, superb storytelling, and awesome attention to detail.
• The ability to clearly and effectively explain your design process and, if necessary, defend your design decisions to both your own team and to external collaborators and clients.
• A background in (or at least a serious passion for) infographics.
• Mastery of the Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash. Familiarity with Dreamweaver, After Effects or Final Cut Pro a plus.
• A distinct, no-jerk personality. Our team is made up of delightful people, and you must be one as well.
• An eagerness to work in a start-up environment. We want someone committed, who doesn’t mind responding to the changing needs of a quickly-growing team.
• Comfortable with fast-paced controlled chaos. Changing deadlines and last-minute requests are all part of the game.
• The ability to be self-directed and stay on task even when unsupervised.
Terms
This position is currently offered as a three-month, part-time (20 hours a week) commitment. We are looking for the ideal candidate to start immediately, working out of our lovely office in downtown Manhattan.
There is the opportunity for paid work on specific projects depending on your strengths and our current project needs. This will be determined on a case-by-case basis. We offer a modest stipend for the fellowship, and there is the potential for a full-time, salaried position after three months.
We will happily support you in earning academic credit if applicable.
